Goodbye to our good friend Phillipp!

Monday, January 29, 2007

On Sunday we had to say goodbye to another good friend as he returned to Germany. Phillipp was a great friend for the short while that he stayed in Namibia. We had some good times, and most definitely some of the craziest moments out in the city. We celebrated his departure the same way as his arrival, a large bbq at my old house.

Lots of new faces for the new year. This night was almost exclusively a boys nights.

On the roof of Poly Heights (my new building) we had a great view of the city at night.

At about 1am we moved the party to El Cubano.

Home Improvement V.1

Replaced the light covers in my new apartment with paper lanters! Was shocked that I could get these so easily here. They have been imported from Germany of all places. I would have guessed China! Its a vast improvment over the existing light shades which I will spare you the details on. There was a floral print thing going on though....nuff said?

Poly Heights - The Polytech Flat

When I got back to Namibia last week and entered my old house, it felt very different. There was an oh so familiar smell in the kitchen that I was not so happy to revisit. So much has happened in that house and so much has changed! Good friends gone, strangers anew, I felt like it was time to take action in getting my own place. I spoke with the administration at the Polytech about getting a Poly Heights flat. This would be possible but I would be on a waiting list. In the meantime I was offered the flat used for visiting professors. Fully furnished and well equiped, I made an easy move last Friday before taking off for the coast.

So far the flat has been good to me. I am able to go to bed much earlier without interuption. Therefor I am well rested and ready to take on the day at 6:45am.

Here are some pics of the apartment.

The main lounge area opens onto the dining room.

View from the dining room across the lounge towards the patio.

Very small kitchen, but easy to maneuvre.

London 2007

On my flight back to Namibia I had a 10 hour stop over in London. It is just so easy to head into London via the Underground out of Heathrow. So thats what I did, dispite catching very little sleep on the redeye out of Toronto.

It's lonely on the tube early in the morning.

Now that is an interesting house.
