This is the new and improved personal website of Michael Paskevicius.  Lots of exciting things to come!!!

I was born in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada and lived in Mississauga and Toronto for much of my life.  I have incredibly strong roots in Canada, however, I always wanted to see the world.

I had my first big break in 2003 with a short stint in South Korea as an English teacher.  I was thrilled with the experience and opportunity to be fully immersed in a new culture, not as a tourist but as a contributing member of society.  The opportunity for interaction with the local people and customs was so much more prevalent having the opportunity to work directly with them.

After finishing university in 2005 I was awarded a Commonwealth Internship from the Commonwealth of Learning.  This brought me to Namibia where I spent the following three years working with the local university in information management.

I am now in Cape Town to pursue my masters  in educational technologies with the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa.  I currently work with the Centre for Educational Technology at UCT on the Shuttleworth funded open educational resources (OER) project.  I have taken on the role of technical liaison for the project and am actively involved with the technical analysis, selection and development process for the UCT OpenContent OER directory.  I have also been actively engaging with UCT academics to promote the creation of electronic teaching materials as OER and have consulted on technical, legal, and social concerns.

I am an educational technologies researcher interested in open education, open source software, open technology, networked learning, and all things education technology (#edtech)

This site is intended to enable friends and family to keep up on what I am doing.  It is also become very important to me as a journal and I often spend time just browsing older posts to rekindle lost memories.

I have also recently started documenting my cooking adventures which I wholeheartedly enjoy.  I am a frequent visitor of Tastespotting and Foodgawker and try to get my food porn published with them.  Its a hobby.

Every time I go home I apologize to my friends and family for my absence because they never fail to welcome me back with open arms and undying love.  Truly home is a good environment to be in and I feel truly blessed.

Your presence keeps me grounded.  Your support lets me soar.  Thank you.
